CDBurnerXP CDBurnerXP is a disk writer application originally made for Windows XP. It remains freeware, with a simple tabbed interface from which the users can choose to burn data or audio on DVD, CD, HD-DVD, and Blu-Ray.
Additionally users can ip, tag audio files, and create bootable images.
With the release of this version a new feature called "disc spanning" has been integrated. It is used to divide a compilation into multiple discs or ISO images (the "Disc spanning" option is available from the "Disc" menu). Another feature released with this version is the .bin and .nrg to ISO image converter, plus a simple cover printing utility added for designing CD and DVD covers.
As of this version, users will be happy to find that it works on Windows 7 (including x64 versions). The program also now integrates Blu-Ray burning, and double-layer writing is supported.
Though it may take users some time to learn how to use it effectively because of its non intuitive interface, CDBurnerXP Pro is a competent tool and is absolutely free.

It is capable of burning CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs in the same easy way. This free tool can be a perfect alternative to expensive disc burners, unless you have really “special” disc-burning needs.
The program's main window is, in fact, a main menu with shortcuts to all the tools offered, which, in turn, will run on separate windows. The visual design of these windows has been substantially changed from previous versions. For example, a command ribbon has now been included, resembling the MS Office 2007 style. Most of the tools included allow you to add your source files through the program's own file navigator. However, there is also the "Custom Disc" tool, which allows you to configure additional parameters like the disc's file system. The program also includes a set of tools to work with ISO image files. You can create ISO images either from your existing discs or from your hard drive's file system. Then, a complementary tool allows you to burn ISO image files back to blank discs. Finally, the program also allows you to erase re-writable discs, to display a disc's information, and to verify a recorded disc for errors.
To sum up, BurnAware Free includes a comprehensive set of tools that aim at covering virtually all your disc-burning needs. The only function I would say that is missing in this free edition of the program is direct disc-to-disc copying. However, you can always create an ISO image file from a source disc and then burn it back into a blank disc using BurnAware, although this requires a certain level of knowledge.

ImgBurn ImgBurn is a free, simple, and powerful burning application for Windows. It enables you to easily perform tasks as follows: write image files to disc, create an image file from disc, write files or folders to disc, create an image file from files and folders on your PC, and so on.
All the tasks mentioned above can be carried out easily and without needing advanced knowledge. However, for more experienced users, the program lets you change advanced settings with ease.
Moreover, the program also lets you burn audio discs from the music files on your PC. The program supports many popular audio formats including: ACC, APE, BIN, M4A, MP3, MP4, MPC, OGG, WMA, WAV, etc.

InfraRecorder InfraRecorder is a small, open-source application that offers you access to basic disc burning tools. It comes with extremely low system requirements and can be easily used by anyone, regardless of their PC knowledge level. The program efficiently handles CDs, DVDs, and other optical disc types.
InfraRecorder includes all the tools that you would expect to find in a program of this type. But this doesn't necessarily mean that it can successfully fulfill its purpose. While I was testing the program, it crashed multiple times with no apparent reason. This might be considered a big drawback by some users. Crashing during the burning process will lead to permanent disc damage.
In addition to burning features, InfraRecorder is also able to create ISO images by using data from various discs. You can then burn these images to other disc types. Also, when copying audio tracks from CDs, you are offered the opportunity to save them to audio formats like: MP3, OGG, WAV, etc.
I admit that InfraRecorder didn’t impress me so much. I would recommend it only for the fact that it’s open source.

FinalBurner FREE FinalBurner FREE is a burning suite for Microsoft Windows that has a whole bunch of features. Although this is not a free application, it is a nice alternative to other burning suites that take most of the user share.
The nice thing about this software is that it allows you to tackle most burning tasks that any day-to-day user might need to carry out.
Out of the box, FinalBurner FREE can burn Audio CDs, Video DVDs, Data compilations, and more. It can also burn image files, such as ISO, BIN, CUE, etc. All of the features of this burner are accessible from a single window, which makes it really easy to use.
Included with this suite is also a DVD mastering application. With it, you will be able to simply drag and drop your video files into a compilation and when you are done with the process, you will have a working Video DVD that you can play anywhere.
There are a lot of options that you can tweak to have this application run the way you want it. If you are into creating CD covers for all your media, FinalBurner FREE also comes with a cover designer which is really easy to use.
There are two versions of this application, the professional one will allow you to use it for 30 days with some restricted functionality. The FREE version is good, but not nearly as complete as the PRO version.
